I'm so excited about Tiny Homes in Kitchener!

It’s official – the tiny homes movement will soon be coming to a neighbourhood near you. Just this week, Kitchener City Council unanimously approved a motion to allow additional dwelling units to be constructed on qualifying existing lots all across the city. This amendment is expected to affect the status of as many as 57,000 properties in Kitchener, with existing zones of RES-1 through RES-5 now permitted to have up to three separate dwelling units per lot – i.e. a duplex, triplex, or detached coach house or ‘tiny home

Many complain that bling bidding combined with low supply and historically low mortgage rates are fueling the Toronto real estate market.


The blind bidding proposition was discussed during a roundtable organized by NOW with Toronto Regional Real Estate Board (TRREB) CEO John DiMichele, Ontario NDP housing critic Jessica Bell and realtors Meray Mansour and Odeen Eccleston.

DiMichele says he understands why people are calling for an end to blind bidding but warns it has to be done in a way that protects people’s privacy, especially since whoever is in the room will know how high certain bidders will pay for a home.
